We were so excited to have Chris Brown of Certified Mortgage Planners in Orlando, Florida, join us in our office earlier this month. Our VP of Marketing, Ethan Beute, sat down Chris at BombBomb HQ in Colorado Springs to learn some video strategies that mortgage professionals and others can put into play.
Our favorite takeaway from this sit down? Hearing Chris talk about how he connects with his referral network – in his case, that’s clients and real estate agents!
Chris is a top performer in his field, and was recently named a one of the Top 25 Most Connected Mortgage Professionals by National Mortgage Professional. He was also honored as a “Top 40 Most Influential Mortgage Professional Under 40” by National Mortgage Professional Magazine for a record five times (2010-2014).
Chris is also an avid BombBomb user. Over the past 3 years, he’s sent more than 3,100 videos!
Check out their conversation – it’s embedded below.
And if you’re short on time, we’ve recapped key questions and times of each of these question in our post below!
Video Strategies for Your Referral Network, New Leads, and More!
At 1:02, Ethan asks Chris how he discovered BombBomb, and what made him realize that it was a product that he had to use.
Chris explains how he noticed a consistent challenge in this “ever automated world” to still connect with his clients on a personal level. He even talks about how he would regularly have moments where his thoughts would be misunderstood in a typed-out email.
“As sales people, we need to understand that we’re not just responsible for the transmission of a message, but also, how that transmission is received,” says Chris.
In short: video’s a better way to communicate. And BombBomb makes it easy (witness: 3,000+ videos recorded and sent).
At the 2:23 mark, Chris explains how he also loves videos because he can send them so much faster than he can send an email.
Chris loves the Gmail integration, because he can compose an email and record a video straight into it inside his Gmail inbox. And he can share his warmth, mannerisms, and smile – making a much larger impact. In addition, he saves time by talking instead of typing.
3:00 minutes in, Ethan asks at 3,100 videos – what are two or three ways that you find yourself using video that are the most effective for you?
Chris explains that as a mortgage broker, it’s very important for him to give the real estate agents he works with the comfort of knowing that he’s immediately reaching out and taking care of the leads that they have referred to him. He uses video for these first-time connections, and makes sure that the real estate agents he works with are also copied on these emails, so they have peace of mind as Chris is working with their clients in a timely and professional manner.
He also uses video to help differentiate himself in the beginning of the process, knowing that he’s not always the only person reaching out to these new leads. Chris mentions how difficult it is to actually get someone on the phone, and video instead will help him connect with someone in a way that he wasn’t able to before.
Simple video messages with his webcam help him stand out in a crowd, and allow people to feel like they have a personal connection with him – even if they’ve never met him in person!
At 5:56, Ethan asks Chris to give people who have not yet started using video yet but are considering it his best tip to help them get moving!
Chris recommends that these people ask themselves this one question – will your business rely more on video or less on video in the future?
He believes most people will see that video is the future, and where people they should be taking their business. Chris also mentions how when he first started using video, he also dealt with the challenge of not liking hearing the way he looked or sounded in certain videos, which many of us can relate to.
“But here’s the thing is, it’s not about being super polished, it’s about being authentic, because people do business with you, because of who you are.”
Chris will be joining us for our next episode of our video podcast, the BombCast, which will be premiering September 28th at 2pm EST! Tune into our BombCast landing page, our Facebook Page, and our YouTube Channel to join us!
